It's my birthday, time to reflect

Hey kids, Today I turn 36, which is a nice number divisible by four, so I'd like to reflect on where I was in the quarters of my life. Twenty seven years ago, I was a nine year old boy starting fourth grade at Edison Elementary. On that day, they asked me to read the Emancipation Proclamation (who's anniversary is also today)in front of the entire school. I remember standing on top of a pedestal and reading it the best I could. I don't recall being nervous. Eighteen years ago I was a senior in high school. I received the best advice from my band teacher, Mr. Lovgren. He told me that "Doctors hang out with doctors." Which is still great advice to surround yourself with people who share a common interest and to find your opportunities from within those circles, rather than hoping for a big break from outside. Nine years ago I had just married my best friend, and was at Disney World for our honeymoon. We spent the day searching for a good barbecue joint, but never finding one. It was a fabulous day spent with a woman who has become my life long play companion. Today, as I sit here and write this, I am blessed with two beautiful children, a loving wife, a home which is more than a house, my dream job and am surrounded by friends and family. Although the road to here wasn't always easy, I wouldn't change a thing and risk not being where I am today.
