Hey kids,
Recently I had a client ask for an action figure for her son for his 9th birthday. She said he was really into the Avengers®, especially Iron Man® and Captain America®. He had thought of the name Blue Iron, and that he would have a shield and the colors of Captain America® and some of the armor and the mask of Iron Man®. Given these parameters, I set about creating an action figure for him to play with. Being me, I wanted to give the client a piece that looked like she purchased it at the store, but still have it be custom to him.
So here we have a picture of him (hi, Carson!) next to the finished toy.
Next I set about creating the packaging. I also made a unique base that had the character's name on it. Here is an image of the finished packaging:
The only piece that I didn't make was the blister pack, which I took from a toy with similar dimensions. The back image is pretty crappy, so here are the actual photoshop files so you can read all the info. Click on the image to see a larger version.
All the artwork is original except for the three warning labels at the bottom of the back and the Young Avengers® logo.
To sweeten the deal, I also created a wall poster (24"x36") that had Carson's likeness and his new superhero alter-ego on it. Here is that:
All-in-all, not a bad 9th birthday present.
Custom Action Figure, Packaging and Poster: $200.
Considering it had original art and you had to print the package and all, $200 is fair and pretty reasonable. I like it.
